(TO THE TUNE OF MARGARITAVILLE)
BY JULIE CHURCH AND BOB JOHNSON ©2003
They said it weren’t that bad.
14 miles and its all been down hill.
Doin’ the switchbacks,
Carrin’ my backpack.
It’s 3 p.m. And it’s hotter than hell.
Hopin’ the cantina, isn’t yet closed,
Somebody said it’s only 2 miles ahead,
I don’t know, that was 5 hours ago.
Toe nails are achin’
Body’s been bakin’
I’m likin’ the looks of that cool lookin’ stream.
Peelin’ my socks off,
My moleskins all fell off,
Raw spots on my feet, made it hard not to scream.
Dreamin’ of ice cold beer down at the phantom ranch.
Hopin’ the cantina, isn’t yet closed.
Somebody said it’s only two miles ahead,
Spent the day chillin’
Cantina was jammin’
Wrote up this song, we all sang along.
My beer crave abbated,
This song got created,
Singing along with friends down at the phantom ranch.
Drinking beer and playin’ with this old guitar,
Hikin’ out tomorrow on the bright angel trail,
And i hope, that it won’t be too hard.
I’ve hit the devil’s corkscrew
Feeling the hiking dew
Wishin i was closer to indian garden
The temperatures climing
And so are we whining
The aches and the pains are starting anew
Dreamin’ of ice cold beer at bright angel lodge.
Hopin’ the cantina isn’t out of beer.
The mule shit’s increasing
The sssun, it’s a beating
The flys will consume us if we stop
We are gettin nearer
The arches are much clearer
We might just make it to that great bar
Wasted away again in bright angel lodge
Drinking beers with friends from afar
Some people said it was only 2 miles ahead
But we know, it was too damn far.
